Ever wondered what is the difference in exhaust sound tuning between different cars that are using the same type of engine?
For example, as we're sure than many of you know, the twin-turbocharged M157 engine has become a rather common powerplant among different AMG model in recent years, with different variants of it powering almost everything in the “big cars” lineup – from the E 63 AMG to the G 63 AMG or even the big GL 63 AMG, its latest iteration being found under the hood of the recently-launched S 63 AMG.
Don't be mislead though, as the M157 power house has different characteristics for each of the models it finds itself in, and the three AMG SUVs in the following short video are perfect proof of that.
The ML 63 AMG offers the least amount of power, with “only” 525 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb ft) of torque, even though a Performance Package option can increase it to 557 hp and 760 nm (560 lb ft) of torque.
The next most powerful AMG SUV is the venerable G 63 AMG, which offers 544 hp and 760 Nm (560 lb ft) of torque.
Last but not least, the biggest AMG SUV is the GL 63 AMG, delivering the same amount of power and torque as the ML 63 AMG with Performance Package.
Since the engines are the same but the length of their exhaustz and the models' temperament are different, how do you tell apart their exhaust sounds? Click play and find out!
