After the his abrupt ousting as GM CEO, Fritz Henderson is getting ready to up his position of vice president for oil refiner Sunoco. The first order of business for the former GM executive will be preparing the way for the company's separation from SunCoke Energy.
Sunoco hopes to become operational in 2011, as soon as it receives the approval from the regulatory bodies. Henderson was seen as the perfect man for the task, as he bring with him 25 years of experience, most of them spent with GM.
"I am very pleased that a leader of Fritz's calibre will be joining Sunoco to lead SunCoke Energy," said chairman and CEO Lynn Elsenhans.
"Fritz is an exceptionally gifted and highly experienced executive with the business and financial expertise needed to lead SunCoke Energy as an independent company and drive its global growth strategy. His broad global experience managing businesses in many of the world's major markets will be invaluable."
Henderson has been working closely with GM since his departure, working as a a consultant on international operations on a month-to-month basis. Henderson became GM CEO in March 2009, after the US government removed Rick Wagoner from the position, in light of the bankruptcy which followed.
"I am very excited by the prospect of leading SunCoke Energy at this pivotal time in its history. SunCoke is the leading independent coke producer in North America, and I see significant global growth potential for the company," added Henderson.
“I look forward to building upon the strong foundation that has already been established to pursue the exciting opportunities ahead."
