Everybody loved the 1970 Chevelle thanks to the upgrades it received, and Chevrolet offered a great mix of upgraded metal and potent engines.
The Chevelle's base offering was the lazy straight-six unit with 155 horsepower, but buyers interested in a well-balanced mix of performance and economical driving could get the 307 with 200 horsepower.

The next engines in the lineup were all about the performance. The SS 396 was fitted with a 402ci engine producing 350 or 375 horsepower, while the 454 big-block sibling could be had in two versions: LS5 with 360 horsepower and LS6 with 450 horsepower.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that the LS6 was the big star of the show, as it turns the SS into a small rocket on wheels.

The Chevelle convertible in these pics is also aiming for an SS conversion, with eBay seller muscle-factory-chevelle explaining that the car was recently pulled from storage after many years. However, while its goal is to become a Super Sport, the car already has a less monstrous engine under the hood – a 307ci block believed to be original and paired with an automatic transmission.

It's unclear if the engine starts and runs, but it's not like it matters much. Someone planning a conversion to a Super Sport will certainly install their own engine. A custom build would also include an engine upgrade, but a working 307 would leave the door open for more projects, including turning the car into a daily driver if that's what the next buyer wants.

The car is a gorgeous red-on-red example sporting solid floors, but it'll still require metal work, including new quarter panels. Unfortunately, this Chevelle is no longer original, and the owner acknowledges that the hood, the front seat, and the headlights are unavailable.

The Chevelle convertible landed online earlier this week and immediately sparked incredible interest – which isn't surprising, considering it's a 1970 model. The bidding was fierce but ended a few minutes ago with bad news for the car, as it failed to sell, so it won't leave for a new home this time. Interested buyers entered the battle with 55 bids, but despite a top offer of $25,400, the Chevelle still failed to find a new owner, as the reserve could not be triggered.

I'm certain the Chevelle will return to eBay in the coming weeks with a second attempt to find a new home, and fingers crossed that the owner lowers the reserve or someone agrees to pay more for the car. Meanwhile, it's parked in Placentia, California, so if you're interested in the vehicle, you can contact the owner and see it in person before committing to a purchase.
