The much-awaited Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept broke the digital barrier and finally showed up at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, where it was just revealed in flesh and bone.
This little hatch here represents Toyota’s proposal for the next-gen performance hybrid vehicles and who knows, maybe we’ll see it at work on the production version of the upcoming Supra which is currently being worked on in partnership with BMW.
Directly inspired by Le Mans TS030’s hybrid powertrain, the “road going” Hybrid-R technology uses a 300 hp 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and three electric motors, each putting out the equivalent of 60 hp. Two of them are placed at the rear, one for each wheel, and the third is integrated in the gearbox.
The 420 hp total setup enables the Yaris Hybrid-R Concept to accelerate very quickly, thanks to the super capacitor juicing the electric motors, and corner like a racecar due to the force being distributed independently at the back.
