Ford's stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show was graced by the presence of two Vignale concepts, showing that the Blue Oval can put luxury in your sedan or van if you can afford it. But the S-Max Concept is more than just a leather-clad car, it's a preview for the next generation of this MPV.
The design language of the concept is an evolution of what we've been seeing since 2010 when the Evos came out. The Grille is similar to that of an Aston Martin, the air intakes on the lower bumper are like BMW's Air Curtain and the headlights are as big as any Kia's.
The bonnet is short and rakish, reminding us of the one on a Fiesta, and flows seamlessly into the windscreen. Underneath, you'll find an all-new 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbo engine, the same as you're going to get on the Fusion/Mondeo.
As interesting as the body is, the interior is even better. Ford has gone all-basic with the dash, installing a large SYNC display and getting rid of most of the buttons. You won't get this beautiful, supple leather everywhere on the production S-Max, but you will probably get the Thin Seat Technology for a flexible passenger cabin.
