Despite heavy testing at the Nurburgring, the latest generation of Cadillacs hasn't trickled down into European showrooms yet.
Benchmarked against the BMW 3 Series, the new ATS compact sedan was revealed a year ago, followed this year by the 2014 CTS sedan, which marks a clear departure for the American luxury brand. It's bigger, more refined and less sporty. Cadillac has reportedly dropped the wagon version altogether and wants to move the CTS Coupe to a whole new nameplate, making it a bespoke model. The Elmiraj concept could preview that car, and its job in Frankfurt is to measure the European market response.
"Elmiraj is about poise and proportion," said Niki Smart, lead exterior designer. "We wanted a mature statement for Cadillac, where simplicity and subtle adornments create a purposeful presence."
The body of this cope is statuesque and evokes Cadillac's glorious past, with a hint of 1967 Eldorado added for good measure.
The thing that strikes you about the Elmiraj Concept is how big it really is. At 5.2 meters from headlight to taillight, it's right in the gray area between the E-Class Coupe and the CL/S-Class Coupe. Cadillac and other automakers like Lexus often try to exploit these niches where they think German automakers don't offer enough legroom for the buck.
Overall, the Elmiraj is an interesting concept which autoevolution thinks is going into production in the next 2 years.
