There's been a lot of talk about the next-generation Ford Mustang getting a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and we were expecting to see the 2.3-liter replace the V6 in the United States.
Well, it seems like the blue oval has different plans and the future four-cylinder pony car will be available only for the European market, since the Mustang will be officially exported over the Pond starting 2015.
This should make both parties happy, as US customers won't lose the V6 version, and European buyers will get an affordable Mustang (V8 engines are subjected to high taxes on the Old Continent). This doesn't mean you won't be able to get a V8 in Europe, because Ford is looking to offer that version over there as well.
According to Edmunds, who found out more about it at the Geneva Motor Show, the turbocharged 2.3-liter is expected to offer 300 HP, almost 50 HP more than the 2013 Focus ST 2.0-liter EcoBoost on which it's based on.
The redesigned sixth-generation Ford Mustang is slated to arrive in 2015.
