Ford has announced that its Mustang is this year’s most popular high-performance sports coupe in the United Kingdom.
According to figures gathered from January to July 2016, Ford has over 4,000 Mustang sales to date, while registrations have only reached 2,317 until the day the press release was published. Ford is confidently ahead of its rivals, as its next competitor, the Jaguar F-Type, only has 1,446 registrations by July 2016.
Ford says it only considered sports cars with over 250 HP for this category, so both the 2.3-liter EcoBoost unit, and the 5.0-liter V8 engines were included in the count. The Blue Oval seems to be proud of the result, even though the competitors found in the other nine places of the Top 10 list are more expensive than its model.
Concerning registrations in the UK in the January-July period of 2016, the BMW 6 Series is in third place with 1,367 units, while the Porsche 911 comes in fourth with a difference of just 52 cars.
The Porsche Cayman is the first to come under 1,000 registrations, and it is followed by the Audi TT, Porsche Boxster, Mercedes-Benz SL, Porsche 718, and BMW i8. These results also seem to show just how popular are Porsche coupes in the UK when compared to anything else.
Ford says that 70% of the clients of the Mustang in the UK bought the 5.0-liter V8 model, while the rest chose the other engine option available, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost. On a European level, Ford has received over 19,500 orders for the new Mustang since its launch, which took place in the third quarter of 2015.
The Blue Oval has sold all of the 4,000 Mustang units mentioned above through just 75 FordStore locations in the United Kingdom. All Ford Mustang models come with the SYNC 3 infotainment system as of June 2016. The multimedia interface has an eight-inch touchscreen, and joins climate functions with navigation, audio, and smartphone connectivity.
