The new Ford Focus promises to be a model to look up to, with the car maker which produces it planning to turn it into a spearhead line of vehicles. Ford has already bombarded us with countless info regarding the vehicle's systems and capabilities.
For some reason though, the interior of the Focus has pretty much remained way behind the rest of the car when it comes to its features. Until now, that is, when the carmaker announced loud and clear it has used pants, shirts and, who knows, perhaps even underwear to cover some parts of the car's interior.
Of course, all the above clothing items have been processed and recycled, so you won't be seeing a pair of panties covering the driver seat's headrest. You will see however certain areas of the car, like the carpet backing and sound-absorption materials, that are made from cottons squeezed out of recycled clothing.
“Ford is continually looking for greener alternatives,” said Carrie Majeske, product sustainability manager at Ford. “One of our key goals is to use more recycled or renewable materials without compromising performance or durability. Recycled content is a way to divert waste from landfills and reduce the impact of mining virgin material.”
Last week, Ford announced that ambient lighting in the new Ford Focus will be in charge with highlighting the pants used for the carpet backing. The carmaker will sell the car equipped with LED interior illumination which can be switched between seven colors.
As you already know, the new Ford Focus launches early next year, with the electric version to follow some one year later.
