British rally car specialist M-Sport has unveiled the long-awaited Ford Fiesta R5 during a public outing at the company’s Northern England base last week.
Sporting a new grey and red livery, the Fiesta R5 is powered by an enhanced 1.6-liter EcoBoost Ford engine and M-Sport claims 90 percent of the car was designed and manufactured from scratch. Scheduled to make its World Rally Championship debut at Neste Oil Rally Finland in August, the rally-ready Fiesta R5 will will make a VIP car appearance at the Geko Ypres Rally (June 27-29) with Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul behind the wheel.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been as excited about a project as I am about the [Ford] Fiesta R5. A great amount of time and effort has gone into this car and our designers have done an incredible amount of research and development to get the car just right. Looking at the testing so far, it certainly looks as though that hard work will pay off. With 18 deposits already placed, it is fantastic to see that the rallying world has such faith in M-Sport to produce a highly competitive and reliable car.
Further details will be revealed later this summer.
