Ford Motor Co. denied recent rumors saying the Fusion mid-size sedan will be offered with the three-cylinder engine recently launched for the Mondeo in China.
Speaking to AutoGuide, a Ford spokesman revealed the company will make an important official powertrain announcement concerning the Fusion today, adding that “it is not a three cylinder”.
According to the same source, the Blue Oval will announce a 1.5-liter four cylinder unit that will replace the current 1.6-liter engine found in the Ford Fusion lineup.
A recent report coming from Ford Inside News said the 2014 Ford Fusion will gain the 1.5-liter three-cylinder Ecoboost powerplant introduced on China’s Mondeo model, which is also expected to be fitted in the Mexican-built Fiesta later this year.
We’ll be back with the official statement as soon as Ford spills the beans.
