Florida man does it again: proving that nothing is impossible, a 35-year-old man was able to make the jump over a 20-foot canal in Lehigh Acres, Florida.
He landed ok, but wrecked the car and broke his back in the process. Even so, he still tried to make a run for it, NBC 2 reports.

Eyewitnesses tell the media outlet that the scene played out like something you would see in “Dukes of Hazzard.” Except that this is real life and, in real life, stunts like this don’t end like on TV: Robert Foley made the landing but broke his back. He also totaled the Nissan Versa he was driving.

Still, Gerard, one of the eyewitnesses, says that, once on the other side, Foley was able to get out of the car and try to make a run for it. He was caught by the cops and charged with one count of hit and run and 2 separate counts of DUI. So, yeah, now we know how he got the idea to jump over the canal.

“He thought he was in The Dukes of Hazzard. You ever seen a truck hit another truck on I-75? Kaboom,” Gerald says. “He was driving full speed, came across the canal, he landed right here on the bank as you can see. He hit this, hit the truck right here, he got out and started running. I went inside, I was scared.”

Hearing that the driver broke his back in the fall, Gerald says what we’re all thinking: the dude is lucky. This could have had a far worse ending, so spending some time behind bars is the least pessimistic outcome he could have hoped for.

Police say Foley has had his driver’s license suspended way back in 2017. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the jump, so he gets points for this at least.
