The latest safety recall to hit Fisker will see 11,308 vehicles recalled for a problem with the cabin electric water pump. In case said part fails, a communication loss will result in the subject vehicle going into limp mode, increasing the risk of a crash by limiting vehicle speed to 10 – 20 miles per hour.
Needless to say, suddenly dropping from highway speeds to no more than 20 miles per hour is pretty dangerous. The Ocean's limp mode is triggered by the high-voltage battery management system. The system in question restricts battery power to 8.5 kW when something appears to be wrong.

It all started in November 2023 with a customer report alleging a failed water pump. Fisker notes that all failed pumps were replaced upon failure in the field through June 2024. The supplier – Johnson Electric International – identified the root cause in February 2024, prompting a corrective action.

What is the root cause behind these failures? The answer is a printed circuit board with insufficient conformal coating coverage. Of the aforementioned 11,308 vehicles, 7,545 were sold in the United States market, with the remainder in Canada, the United Kingdom, and markets in the European Union.

Fisker highlights that only vehicles produced before March 7, 2024 will need replacement pumps. Be that as it may, the recall for the US market lists production dates up to March 13, 2024. Of course, said pumps will feature improved conformal coating on the printed circuit board. Fisker dealers are to check the coolant level and – if needed – fill the surge tank after replacement.

FM2930200022A is the part number of the Ocean's cabin electric water pump for LHD vehicles, while FM2930200103A is for the RHD vehicles. According to service documentation, the replacement should take around 0.7 hours (less than 45 minutes).

Owners in the United States are to be notified by first-class mail no later than August 23. Those who aren't sure if their Oceans are included can easily determine that by running the 17-character VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website.

Said VINs begin with the character VC, which stands for Austria. Everything from VA to VE means Austria. The folks at Manga Steyr assembled the Ocean for the financially troubled automaker. The automaker filed for bankruptcy protection back in June 2024, whereas Manga Steyr idled production in March 2024, assuming no further production.

Fisker is currently negotiating a bulk deal with a leasing firm to sell remaining SUVs for prices ranging from $2,500 to $16,500 apiece. If the deal gets the go-ahead, New York-based American Lease would purchase 3,231 examples of the Ocean. The deal features a big asterisk, though: Fisker won't honor vehicle warranties and isn't obligated to provide repairs, maintenance, or updates.
