Just a few days ago, we learned from our sources that Ferrari is going to apply the Speciale treatment to the beautifully elegant 458 Spider convertible supercar, exciting news for anybody who's ever drooled over the 430 Scuderia Spider 16M.
We now return to the subject with a rendering to give you a rough idea of what to expect, thanks to Virtuel Car. The bulk of the changes target the front end, where a new bumper is installed. But Ferrari will make the car become more exceptional in every way, starting with an updated 4.5-liter V8, now producing 605 hp instead of the usual 570 and ending with a track-ready suspension.
A substantial reduction in weight could also be made compared to a normal 458 Speciale. Ferrari is going to do just about everything it can to take the car right to the edge of normal road handling without going over. Remember, the Spider Special will be a limited production car, something best enjoyed by true Ferrari fans and not ordinary posers. Driving it will have a sense of occasion and purpose, nothing like as mundane as other supercars.
With rumors of a new V8 supercar coming in the next couple of years, the Speciale Spider could be the last great version of the 458 before we have to say our goodbyes. We really can't think of a better way to say goodbye to naturally aspirated Ferrari V8s.
