When you crash a Ferrari, you know you’re into trouble, but when the Prancing Horse you just slammed is an F50, you’re in huge trouble. One British motorist certainly knows the feeling, with the man having crashed his F50 earlier this week, in the proximity of the Silverstone track.
This raised suspicions on the F50 being taken for a test drive and since we’re mentioning the details, we also have to explain the road was bone dry.
Witnesses claim the Ferrari started skidding after it went through a junction, with the supercar ending up hitting a lamppost. The F50 was most damaged on its right side, right behind the passenger cell. Of course, since the car went off the road, there could be more damage underneath.
According to the authorities, the Silver F50 and the pole may have been damaged, but nobody was injured in the accident.
Just as importantly, the F50 features a carbon fiber central tub and, if this has been affected, the costs will seriously jump. Prepeg carbon fiber is more than expensive to work with, as the costs are seriously affected by the preparation and molding.
Oh well, at least this Ferrari crash won’t be as expensive as Rowan Atkinson’s McLaren F1 accident. Back in 2011, Me Bean spun in his F1, with the supercar hitting a tree and bursting into flames. The actor broke his shoulder in the process, with the crash leading to a GBP1 million insurance payout, a record for the UK.
As a comparison, Rowan Atkinson’s McLaren F1 was believed to be worth almost four times more than the F50 we are talking about here.

Why this is one of the most expensive single-car crashes in the UK
First of all, these things are rare, with Maranello only releasing 349 of them back in the 90s in order to celebrate its 50th anniversary. As you can imagine, their value has gone through the roof, with an F50 changing hands for north of GBP850,000 (EUR1.08 million or $1.36 million).Just as importantly, the F50 features a carbon fiber central tub and, if this has been affected, the costs will seriously jump.
