Felipe Massa Wins 500 Miles of Granja Viana Kart Race

After coming second to former teammate Michael Schumacher in the karting charity event at Florianopol last weekend (despite the fact that he won one of the two races in that event), Felipe Massa returned to his winning ways yesterday, during the 500 Miles of Granja Viana.

The famous karting race, held in Cotia (near Sao Paulo), was won by Massa for the first time in 1997, when he was only 16. Now that he is trying to get back in shape for his F1 return – following his accident in the Hungarian Grand Prix this year – Massa made no less than 3 appearances in karting events over the course of the last couple of months, the last of which was the Granja Viana race.

His team – he partnered potential F1 rookie Lucas di Grassi and Stock Car Lights driver Julio Campos – stopped the clock after no less than 644 laps, at 10h 58:17.64.

Second place went to Leonardo Nienkotter, Ricardo Zonta, André Nicastro, Francesco Ventre, Eduardo Dieter and Guilherme Silva, while the team, lead by Rubens Barrichello, joined by Tony Kanaan, Felipe Giaffone, Renato Russo and Osvaldo Negri, only came in third,” said a press release from the Ferrari official site.

After crossing the finish line in 1st place, it's no shock to whom Massa chose to dedicate his success at Granja Viana: his newly-born son Felipinho, who was delivered by wife Raffaela last Tuesday.

Together with the victory gained in Florianopolis last week this was a very important goal for me after I had dreamt about getting back onto the track for a long time. I want to dedicate this victory to my son, it’s my way to say how much I love him,” said Massa.
