Feast Your Eyes on the VW Jetta TDI Cup “Street” Edition

In case you thought that Volkswagen ran out of concepts or customized models especially prepared for SEMA, you were surely wrong because the German carmaker has just unveiled the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup “Street” Edition. “With the conclusion of the successful 2008 Jetta TDI Cup Volkswagen of America is bringing the race car to the people with their Jetta TDI Cup “Street” edition special model unveiled at the 2008 SEMA show,” Volkswagen announced.

This new model is mostly based on the successful 2008 Jetta TDI Cup and even shares multiple parts, such as the front bumper, the side skirts and the rear valance.

But even so, the “Street” Edition brings even more upgraded features, with brake enhancements and sport tuned suspension among the standard features. The tuned 2.0-liter lean-diesel TDI engine is now capable of providing a maximum power of 140 hp plus 236 lb-ft combined with a six-speed DSG transmission with Tiptronic and Sport mode. In
addition, the special edition model has Yokohama 225/40R18 ADVAN sport tires with 18-inch multi-spoke wheels.

The interior was also upgraded with a “race-inspired three-spoke steering wheel with the TDI Cup logo and interlagos cloth sport seats,” as the German car manufacturer said in a press statement. “The TDI Cup “Street” will be available in similar GLI colors and feature “TDI Cup Edition” appliqué for the vehicle side and branded door sill inserts.”

What's interesting is that the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup “Street” Edition is one of the few models unveiled at the SEMA show held in Las Vegas which may actually reach mass production. Volkswagen said that this special edition car may arrive on the market in 2010 with a price starting under $30,000.
