As the automotive world is racing head on towards a less fossil-fuel dependent future, more and more organizations and companies are doing their best to reward those who lead this race. Energy Vision (EV), a non-profit organization pushing for the use of petroleum-free transportation fuels, announced this week its own version of the awards.
Simply called Energy Vision Awards, the effort is a way for the organization to acknowledge the people who are striving to make the future world a greener one. This edition of the awards honored Andrew J. Littlefair, Clean Energy CEO, and Russell K. Barnett, Smithtown environmental director.
“Our awardees are true ‘Energy Visionaries,’” said EV’s president Joanna Underwood. “Andrew Littlefair’s Clean Energy, a California-based company, working across the US and Canada, and Russell Barnett working on the local municipal level in Smithtown, NY, have both effected changes that are addressing climate change, reducing this country’s risky reliance on foreign oil and cutting urban vehicle-related pollution by advancing the use of cleaner alternative fuels in transportation.”
Barnett was recognized for bringing change to the local level on the East Coast by providing his home town, Smithtown, NY, with the first 100 percent natural gas refuse fleet. Clean Energy's Littlefair operates over 200 natural gas refueling stations, including the ones providing fuel for Barnett's refuse trucks.
“Only with the willingness of business leaders such as Andrew Littlefair to break new ground, designing new, more environmentally sound fuels, products and technologies, and the willingness of local leaders such as Russ Barnett to adopt them, will this country move toward a sustainable future,“ added Underwood.
