Ducati Bike Will Not Be a Copy of Yamaha's

Following Valentino Rossi and his chief engineer Jerry Burgess' move to Ducati, many feared the Italians will borrow some of Yamaha’s bike development updates. However, in a recent interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, Ducati team boss Vittoriano Guareschi dismissed this possibility.

"They're acclimatising well, they like our craftsman-like soul, after so many years with the Japanese," Guareschi told Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by Autosport. "Jerry gives me ease of mind. Generally there's serenity: we just need to improve our bike, not turn it into a copy of the Yamaha."

Guareschi also stressed the fact that Rossi’s lap times during the Valencia test were mainly due to The Doctor’s physical condition rather than his lack of affinity between him and the squad’s bike.

"We have tried to create the conditions where we are ready to design, in the shortest time possible, the parts we think are useful to have a better bike,"
Preziosi told Motosprint. "Of all the things we had in our list, we have chosen only the important ones and that's where we've focused."

"After all, hiring Valentino is not just having a very quick rider, but also one that is able to give correct indications for the bike's development. So we must make the most of this hugely important asset for the company."

The veteran MotoGP rider will still need to make as many laps as possible in order to adjust to the new machine, but Preziosi says Rossi has so far seemed pleased with Ducati’s bike.

"Based on Valentino's comments, it seems unnecessary to radically change the project,"
added Preziosi. "However, we are ready to do it, should it become necessary."
