Tesla’s cars are so beloved by automotive enthusiasts not only because they’re responsible towards the environment. They’re also in a league of their own when it comes to performance credentials, and sometimes that doesn’t bode well with the ICE competition. Still, that doesn’t mean there’s anything sane in trying to exert payback on the street.
Ever since the first Tesla was raced against a conventionally powered car, nothing remained the same in the world of competitive drivers. Some people discovered an entirely new world of possibilities; others had to cope with an incredible new category of rivals. And, as always, some were better at it than others.
Our first and foremost advice has to do with taking any car-related beef into the appropriate environment; which, by the way, is very permissive. You could race Teslas against ICE in the virtual realm of gaming. Then, the EVs could also be taken to the drag strip. And even though battery-powered cars are a bit on the hefty side, they could even be enjoyed when trashed around a racetrack.
But having an impromptu street race should never be on anyone’s agenda. Unfortunately, this little piece of advice might have escaped a particular Dodge Challenger driver one late night. According to footage and commentary provided by the Wham Baam Teslacam, someone driving a Tesla Model 3 on the highway decided to make short work of the slow traffic ahead and began passing cars in a swift manner.
Obviously, that may not have been to the liking of the particular Dodge Challenger driver who is seen (from the 0:35 mark) accelerating in the background to give chase to the speeding Tesla Model 3. Because the highway was quite busy, we’re not entirely sure the EV driver shouldn’t have also taken a more cautious approach when passing the slower cars, either.
Still, it was crystal clear the Challenger was mostly interested in restoring its seemingly tarnished honor no matter what – a sure recipe not for success, but impending disaster. Unfortunately, this time around, there was no guardian angel for the Dodge, and an unsuspecting car was rear-ended at full speed by the reckless driver (0:50). Both vehicles thrown into the concrete barrier and probably caused a massive pile-up on the highway.
The Tesla Model 3 driver claimed to have been oblivious towards this particularly unsettling moment until later when revisiting the car’s footage. There is no way to find out what happened next, but we sure hope everyone turned out unharmed.
