When a boosted Coyote shows up at the drag strip, you the adventure is about to get spicy. However, as Dodge aficionados would say, this is a job for Captain Hellcat.
Fortunately, we get to check out tons of such adventures and the one that awaits you in the video at the bottom of the page has taken place just a few days ago.
We're looking at a Dodge Challenger Hellcat and a previous-generation Ford Mustang GT. And while the Mopar machine comes in factory stock form, the Blue Oval machine has been taken down the aftermarket route.
We're not aware of the exact mods fitted to the five-oh heart of this Mustang, but we can tell you that the Ford now belongs to the land of boost. As for the result of all the aftermarket work, the Ford Mustang now delivers 620 horses (this is the output at the crank).
Now, we can't compare these two without using reference 1,320-feet times. Since the Ford Mustang is a modded machine, we'll have to skip straight to the Challenger Hellcat.
When using street tires, the Dodge can get from one end of the drag strip to the other in 11.2 seconds. Fit drag radials to the machine and you'll see the time dropping to 10.8 seconds.
And, despite the two slabs of America battling on two separate occasions, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat didn't even manage to come near the official numbers mentioned above.
Then again, we mustn't complain all that much. For one thing, the element linking the steering wheel to the pedals is the one responsible for the uninspiring 1/4-mile times seen here. However, everybody has to gain experience somehow, so here's to hoping these drag races at least helped the guy behind the wheel of the Hellcat improve his drag racing game.
