Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) reported sales of 565k vehicles during the first three months of the year in America, and they're hot on the heels of General Motors (a little over 594k) thanks to a more than 20% rise in deliveries.
The company believes much of the performance is owed to its "diverse portfolio of 27 electrified vehicle options between the Toyota and Lexus brands." They are also prepared to launch more than 20 all-new, refreshed, or special edition models, including nameplates that are now exclusively available only with hybrid powertrains – like the all-new 2024 Land Cruiser and 2025 Camry.
However, if you would much prefer a traditional internal combustion engine setup, there are still some choices – including in the mid-size off-road SUV field. No, we are not talking about the upcoming 2025 Toyota 4Runner, even though it can also be had with the 'regular' 278-horsepower i-Force inline-four turbo mill. Instead, it's something more elegant – a twin-turbocharged V6-equipped 2024 Lexus GX 550.
As it turns out, along with the N400 Toyota Tacoma, the 2024 Land Cruiser, as well as the 2025 4Runner, the Lexus model has become somewhat of a darling of both the rumor mill and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. The former doesn't care much about it anymore since it's out and about starting from $64,250, but the latter hasn't lowered its interest, as it turns out. Or, at least, there are exceptions.
For example, Nikita Chuicko, the virtual artist better known as kelsonik on social media, thinks that now is the right CGI time to play with the Lexus GX 550 – again. This pixel master has a big passion for mid-size off-road SUVs and recently has worked out some hypothetical custom tuning scenarios for these great TMNA nameplates – including a blacked-out 2024 Land Cruiser and a lowered 4Runner with fresh wheels.
This time around, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 only receives minor CGI upgrades – almost the entire upper portion of the SUV is blacked out, including the A-through-C-pillars, the roof, as well as the mirrors. Plus, it also gets a fancy set of larger aftermarket wheels to complete the subtle morphing. As such, it would be ready to hunt down prey like Jeep's balanced Grand Cherokee, the high-end Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and the gracefully aged Volvo XC90, among others.
So, what do you think of its attire? Do you like or has the CGI expert exaggerated with the potential Stormtrooper look? Anyway, the real world's Lexus GX 550 is out and about now across the nation's dealership network starting from $64,250, and you can go into several directions, including high-end Luxury+ ($81,250) or backwoods exploration companions like the Overtrail+ ($77,250).
