Delaware State Police recently recorded what appears to be the first attempted theft of a Tesla Cybertruck. The thief spent a very short time with the truck because the owner could track its GPS location, allowing the police to find it nearby. Although the suspect tried to flee, he later decided to stop and surrender, probably realizing that he could not escape.
People do stupid things for stupid reasons, but stealing a Tesla might be among the worst ideas. Tesla electric vehicles are equipped with advanced security features, including a transponder that broadcasts the GPS location continuously. Owners can track their vehicles in the Tesla app, and the carmaker can also disable it remotely if requested.

That's not to say that Tesla EVs are impossible to steal. They can be stolen, and sometimes they are stolen, but this is no ordinary endeavor. Because it's difficult and the reward is not worth the risks, theft statistics rarely mention Tesla. However, some people try to steal a Tesla simply because they are not aware of the security measures baked in. Some even disregard the vehicle cameras when they are caught vandalizing it.

Stealing a Tesla might be an honest mistake, but stealing a Tesla Cybertruck is worse. The so-called "apocalypse vehicle" benefits from all the security safeguards like all other Teslas. On top of that, it has another quality that makes it the only car in the world that thieves should avoid: it's impossible to go under the radar. In other words, you can run with a Cybertruck, but you cannot hide.

A man from Delaware learned this the hard way after trying to get away in a stolen Cybertruck. Delaware State Police reports that Corey Cohee of Milford, Delaware, stole a Tesla Cybertruck from a home in Lincoln, DE. It's unclear how he could start the truck, but the most probable explanation is that the owner was nearby with the card. Thanks to the Cybertruck's tracking capabilities, the officers who showed up at the owner's home were able to quickly locate the stolen vehicle on a dirt road less than a mile away.

When they arrived, the suspect tried to flee, disregarding directions from officers. However, the pursuit ended briefly, presumably because the man realized he could not escape in such a conspicuous vehicle. He was arrested without incident and is now facing four major charges, including theft of a vehicle, disregarding a police officer's signal, criminal trespass, and failure to have a license in possession.

Tesla Cybertruck has a distinctive shape and unique stainless steel body, making it impossible to go unnoticed. The door panels can stop a bullet, making it almost bulletproof, while the windows are also tougher than most automotive glass. If you're a thief, it will probably protect you better than any other vehicle but don't expect to get away with it.
