Romanian manufacturer Dacia announced today it has reached a production milestone at its Mioveni plant in Romania. A record in itself for the plant, the 300,000the Dacia Sandero model rolled off assembly lines in the form of a 1.6l, 90 hp which will be shipped to Bosnia.
We reckon there's no need to tell you how successful the second stand alone model in the Dacia lineup proved to be since its launch. Currently selling in several regions of the world under different badges, Dacia's first hatchback is built in the purest Dacia style: cheap and reliable.
Since its launch in 2008, the model managed to become the Romanian carmaker's best selling model. Of the 181,826 units sold in the first six months of the year, 95.756 were Sandero models, a figure which is 10,000 bigger than the one reported for the first period of 2009.
The model is being produced in Casablanca and Morocco under the Dacia brand and in Brazil, Colombia, Russia and South Africa under the Renault name.
The next step for Dacia is its entry on the right-hand drive market. Whereas the Duster SUV will certainly get there in the next few years, rumors about the Sandero receiving this type of configuration surfaced last year.
Last month, a video showing the production process behind the Sandero at a manufacturing plant somewhere in Russia surfaced. The video showed a Russian employee hammering and bending by means of a knee the Sandero into complying with whatever a piece of paper was telling him. Watch it here.
