They have done it several times on drag strips. Now, the time has come for the two of them to take their battle to the sand. The Tesla Cybertruck duels the Ford F-150 Lightning at Moses Lake Mud Flats and Sand Dunes. No spoilers, but we can say that one of them should have just enjoyed a day at the beach on a sunlounger.
The Tesla Cybertruck arrived on the market as a Ford F-150 Lightning rival and it is not going anywhere until it proves its worth on any terrain. The battle started long before Tesla even kicked off deliveries on November 30, 2023. While the Cybertruck was still in the development stage, the Blue Oval's CEO, Jim Farley, was throwing arrows at it, showing off the off-road capabilities of the F-150 Lightning.

After countless battles at the drag strip, and off-road courses, and pull tests, the time has come for the two of them to prove their worth on sand. It happened at the Moses Lake Mud Flats and Sand Dunes in the state of Washington, where the Tesla Cybertruck and the Ford F-150 Lightning drag-raced on the sand.

Both seem to struggle with traction after the start, but the torque and all-wheel drive kick in, and the wheels get the right grip on the tricky surface, allowing them to gain speed.

The Ford eventually outruns the Tesla and is the first to cross the finish line. There is no information on the powertrains of the two except for the fact that they run on electric power.

A photo from the event also shows a second Cybertruck and a Rivian R1T and, according to the comments below the photos, all of them were involved in sand drag racing and the Ford F-150 Lightning was the fastest of them all.

The most potent in the F-150 Lightning lineup is the one sporting 580 horsepower (588 metric power) and 775 pound-feet (1,051 Newton meters) of torque in an all-wheel drive setup, for a run from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4 seconds flat.

The quickest Cybertruck is the tri-motor Cyberbeast with 845 horsepower (857 metric horsepower) and 1,029 pound-feet (1,396 Newton meters) for an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds with rollout subtracted. Of course, all these numbers are valid on tarmac, not sand.

However, the one that had to admit that the Ford was better is obviously not the range-topping Cyberbeast unless traction played tricks on it and left it struggling.

We suppose that, right from the start, drivers deflated their tires for better control. The last time we saw the Cybertruck on sand, the driver had surely failed to do it and the wheels of the electric pickup truck got stuck in the sand. The driver and a friend of his had to push the vehicle out of its entrapment.
