It's not the first time we're hearing about carmakers that can't meet demand for a specific vehicle, but Toyota is facing some serious problems in India. After launching the new Etios sedan in the country back in December, buyers rushed into dealerships to make a deposit and thus be sure they will receive the car in the first half of 2011.
At that time, buyers have been told that delivery of the new Etios shouldn't take longer than 4 to 6 months which means all cars should greet their owners sooner than June 2011.
But the whole delivery process takes longer than expected, thus making some buyers cancel their orders. Delivery time of an Etios has increased to up to 8 months, a report by Rush Lane reveals.
The Japanese manufacturer has reckoned that there are some problems with meeting demand for the new Etios, but emphasized that the company is not at all concerned with the current number of buyers canceling their orders.
“There will be some cancellations. However, it is not a concern for us. We are working on building our capacity. Waiting periods should come down after February this year when our new plant (located in Bidadi, near Bangalore) will be fully operational," Sandeep Singh, Deputy MD, Toyota India, was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.
The Etios sedan is powered by an all-new 1.5-liter 16-valve DOHC engine with 89 hp at 5600 rpm and 132 Nm at 3000 rpm. A smaller 1.2l engine is also being considered as a good choice for the model. The company however plans to extend the Etios family by introducing the Liva five-door hatchback in April 2011.
