Each and every supercar crash is unpleasant and yet some accidents are more painful than others. The most recent example of this is offered in the adjacent image, which shows a Porsche 959 crash.
It appears that this 959 was involved in an accident that took place less than 24 hours ago. We have no details on the crash, other than the clues offered by the picture. By the looks of it, the crash took place in Australia.
The Porsche shows heavy damage to the front end, with the effects of the impact showing from the front apron up to the A-pillar. The hood was also seriously affected. We have to explain that the 959 has a composite body built from aluminum and Aramid (Kevlar), all in the effort to keep the weight down.
The only good part here is that the 959 keeps its engine in the middle, so most of the car’s tech bits escaped the ordeal.
As for the reason behind our sadness, Porsche’s 959 is an extremely rare sight, with the company having produced just 230 examples of this street-going Group B rally car. In fact, it was speculated that, despite the hefty price of the car, Porsche lost quite a lot of money on each unit made. Well, we don’t even want to think about the repair bill.
