The newest function added to Mercedes-Benz models equipped with Comand Online is called the “Live Traffic Information” and it's pretty much the bee's knees when it comes to future technologies arriving today.
Unlike other enthusiastically-named technologies, this function actually does what it says: it delivers the entire traffic stats in real time, making sure that the car's navigation system is better informed about the situation on the roads in a continuous way.
The way the system works might sound as being a bit on the Orwellian-side for a conspiracy junkie, but the bottom line remains: it works.
Thanks to a cooperation between Daimler AG, TomTom and Deutsche Telekom, the Live Traffic Information function evaluates anonymous data that records the movement of both TomTom navigations systems users and mobile phone users.
That information ensures that any traffic jams on both the planned and possible alternative routes are sent to the Comand Online system in real time. In other words, if every car out there had this system in the near future and with enough roads, traffic jams could very well be a thing of the past.
