Those of you not familiar with Cleveland Guardians ball player Jose Ramirez should know that he’s not your average third baseman. He is widely regarded to be a top 20 player in the MLB right now, and arguably the best third baseman in all of baseball. It’s between him, Austin Riley, Manny Machado and Rafael Devers, as far as I’m concerned.
Anyway, like most professional ball players in the United States, Ramirez also happens to be a fan of motor vehicles that can attract attention. Not only that, but he’s an EV fan too, having recently uploaded a bunch of telling pictures on his social media.

In those images, he can be seen chilling with his brand-new Tesla Cybertruck, next to what we can only assume is his Hummer EV truck. The latter, by the way, really stands out thanks to its red exterior and contrasting black accents.

Ramirez has already been seen behind the wheel of his new Cybertruck multiple times, while on his way to Progressive Field for Guardians practice sessions and home games.

Judging from what we can see, his Cybertruck doesn’t appear to be a Foundation Series model (unsure though), nor is it a Cyberbeast. This means it can’t be anything else but the dual-motor AWD variant, with its 600 horsepower and 4.1-second 0-60 mph acceleration time.

What’s interesting is that the Cybertruck and the Hummer EV couldn’t be more different when it comes to driving dynamics, so in a way, I sort of understand why somebody would like to own both.

I also want to point out that should you want to purchase a new Cybertruck, you’re better off waiting however long it takes for Tesla to manufacture it and then deliver it to you, rather than looking for a used one. Just yesterday we saw a dual-motor AWD Foundation Series model that didn’t sell because the owner wouldn’t accept $20,000 over MSRP for it.

Back to Ramirez, the 31-year-old Dominican infielder is a foundation piece of the Guardians, and he’s looked very strong so far during the 2024 MLB season. His batting average is .242, to go with 27 total runs, 40 hits, and 37 RBIs in 41 games (165 at bats). As for how his team is doing (halfway through May 2024), well, pretty darn good I’d say.

The Guardians are currently top of their division with a record of 26 wins and 16 losses. They’re 12-6 at home and 14-10 on the road. It’s actually a little bit surprising to see them doing so well, considering how their batting average is a mere .236 (19th best in the league).

Are EVs popular among pro athletes?

I’d say they’re reasonably popular, yes, but not to the point where these guys are ditching their internal combustion engine supercars and trucks in favor of battery-electric power. Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are probably just as popular among celebs as EVs right now, with the focus being on exclusivity.
