We heard that the Japanese automotive industry took a blow to the heart because Toyota, Mazda, Honda, and Yamaha admitted to faking safety tests.
But do you think that Mazda MX-5 Miata owners care about safety when they're inside a little roadster that could be swallowed whole by some of the current full-size SUVs like the Chevy Suburban or crushed with ease by a behemoth like the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck? Probably not, since the little roadster has perhaps become the most iconic open-top in the world.

Curiously, there are just four generations since its inception in 1989, labeled NA, NB, NC, and ND. It's as simple as that, and the fourth iteration has been respectful of tradition since 2014 when it was introduced in various locations around the world. It received the supreme World Car of the Year (WCOTY) accolade in 2016, and since then, Mazda has worked hard to make it enticing.

They gave it no less than three updates in 2018, 2021, and 2024, along with a never-ending slew of special editions – including for Mazda's own 100th anniversary. What they didn't do – either on the Roadster or the two-door retractable roof fastback, is to offer it the joy of JDM-style OEM tunning. No worries, plenty of venues and independent folk have taken care of that – including the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.

Although it's almost a decade old, the ND Mazda MX-5 Miata still triggers passions, and this automotive artist & designer, better known as pistonzero across social media, demonstrates his love for the iconic roadster in the best way possible, with a full widebody aerodynamic kit and a bunch of additional modifications. He starts with the conceptual kit that includes not just beefier fender flares and aerodynamic flourishes but also an all-new front end and an adapted rear.

To make it clear that he's a traditional NA MX-5 Miata fan, the pixel master also cooked up a first-generation-inspired hardtop on top of everything. The white wheels are classic, too, but I'm not sure about the combination between the blue brake calipers, the milky white alloys, and the rose tint of the body shade. Luckily, there's also a CGI video feature embedded below, and we're getting to see the Mazda MX-5 Miata slammed, wide-bodied, and dressed in dark blue attire with black 'shoes.'

Even better, someone wondered if the technically exotic widebody kit and all the other modifications are even possible in real life – to which the CGI expert answered that "not yet, but working on it." So, aside from the usual query about whether or not we dig this unofficial design project comes a second question: would you buy a Miata looking like this if the artist's creation comes true?
