The second customer racing car from Mercedes-Benz comes in the form of the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series Concept, which previews a series produced racing car, just like the highly-successful SLS AMG GT3.
“The CLA 45 AMG Racing Series demonstrates our desire to further increase our commitment to customer motorsport. We are also seeking to offer interested customer teams a competitive, near-standard racing car with an excellent level of safety in the popular four-cylinder segment,” said Ola Källenius, soon to be ex-CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “The tremendous success of the SLS AMG GT3, which is now being raced by customer teams across five different continents, makes us highly confident.”

Well, considering the SLS AMG GT3 just won its fourth consecutive 24-hour race this year, it's no wonder they feel pretty confident.

Despite being based on the street-legal version, the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series has a variable engine output with permanent all-wheel drive or even just front-wheel drive configurations being possible, depending on the race rules and technical regulations it needs to abide to.

Considering next year's WTCC is set to sport more powerful cars, we don't see why the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series couldn't begin a successful career there, especially since BMW might step out of the championship altogether.
