Patent filings from China have emerged which suggest a model called the DS4 CS is on the way. Now, that tells us pretty much nothing other than the fact that a new DS is on the way. However, another image from the trademark office suggests the DS4 CS is not connected in any way to the C4 range or the DS4. It's actually being branded an "SUV" but going to be more of a crossover, based on the same platform as the Peugeot 2008.
Peugeot platforms used for DS models are nothing new. The DS5 is also based on a Peugeot, the 3008 to be more precise. But now that DS is a separate brand from Citroen, the DS4 CS will probably be even more distinctive.
Itself based on the 208 supermini, the 2008 was never designed to do any serious offroading. It's only available with front wheel drive and uses brake-assisted systems to fake the effect of a diff.
The patent office has even named the engines that's going into the DS4 CS. It's a 1.2-liter turbo, probably similar to the one just introduced on the 308 compact and offering two states of tune. The basic one gets 110 hp and 195 Nm of torque, while a 130 hp version with a more meaty 230 Nm is also going to be offered.
Under PSA's "Road to Recovery" strategy, the lineup of models offered by the French carmaker is going to shrink, at the same time becoming more relevant. DS is now a separate premium brand and all its future products have to be designed and engineered to work on a global scale. Hopefully, that means the DS4 CS is coming to Europe as well, because people here are crazy about B-segment cars right now.
