Following the initial preview in April, Stellantis has now allowed its French subsidiary Citroen to give us the fool scoop on the latest subcompact crossover - the C3 Aircross joins the family alongside the fresh Opel Frontera and Fiat Grande Panda, among others.
Stellantis has been on a roll in the European B segment, and it's all thanks to the fresh Stellantis Smart Car Platform, which also underpins the fourth generation Citroen C3, the reborn Opel Frontera, or the fourth generation Fiat Grande Panda. Now they're joined by the Citroen C3 Aircross sibling, a "stylish, smart, functional and affordable proposition" that supposedly will "appeal to families and everyone with an active lifestyle."

The Citroen C3 Aircross, now in its second generation, is a complete reinvention of the predecessor and, in Europe, is a bit different from the version offered in Asia, Africa, or Latin America. By the way, don't mistake it for the Citroen Basalt either; that one is the coupe-SUV model revealed in Brazil and India, which commenced local production in the latter market this month.

Back to the Old Continent, the C3 Aircross arrives with fresh styling, a new technical architecture, a "robust" design based on Citroen's latest styling language, the Citroen Advanced Comfort suspension, a C-Zen Lounge inside the cabin featuring even a Head-Up Display, and expanded dimensions (length is now 4.39 meters) to accommodate a first in the segment: up to seven seats.

The prices are already in for the local home market of France, and the C3 Aircross starts from €19,400 or €25,500, or €27,400 because it has three types of powertrains – orders will soon open progressively across the other European markets. Back to the engines, Citroen offers a base model equipped with the three-cylinder PureTech Turbo 100 MT6, packing 101 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission. The second option is the all-new Hybrid 136 version using mild hybrid 48V technology and a new generation of the 1.2-liter PureTech mill with 40% new components.

The package includes the three-cylinder with 134 horsepower seconded by an e-CDT electrified dual-clutch automatic transmission that incorporates an electric motor good for 28 hp powered by a 48V lithium-ion battery located under the floor. This version will be available for both five and seven-seat configurations. The flagship model is the new all-electric C3 Aircross, packing a small 111-hp electric motor and a 44-kWh battery pack of the LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) variety – which should be good for a range of up to 300 km and a top speed of 145 kph.

Charging takes a bit, though – with the 7-kW charger, the Citroen goes from 10 to 80% SoC in four hours and ten minutes; with the 11-kW charger, it needs two hours and fifty minutes. Luckily, DC charging is available at up to 100 kW, lowering the respite period to 26 minutes. The good news is that Citroen is preparing a version with a larger battery and aims for a range of over 400 km for its 2025 introduction.
