Chrysler has announced a recall for 282,200 model-year 2013 minivans than may be equipped with side airbags that can deploy on the wrong side in the event of an accident.
The Detroit-based company says that a software issue is causing the airbags to deploy on the opposing side of the vehicle, adding that only one minor injury related to this defect has been recorded so far.
The affected vehicles, all built for the 2013 model year, include the Chrysler Town & Country, the Dodge Grand Caravan and the Ram Cargo Van. 224,000 of these vehicles are located in the United States, 49,300 in Canada, 2,900 in Mexico, and 5,300 outside North America.
Chrysler will begin notifying owners and reprogram the software free of charge.
