Chrysler Exec Receives Women of Color Award

Chrysler's Electrified Propulsion Product Development Director and Chief Engineer, Jayanthi Iyengar, has been named Women of Color at the 14th Women of Color Conference in Dallas this past weekend, as a recognition of how the woman executive changed the face of the auto maker and of her involvement with community projects.

The recipient of the Career Achievement in Industry Award holds perhaps one of the most important positions within the Chrysler group, being responsible with what most consider to be the future: electrification.

"It is an incredible honor to be recognized in this way along with such outstanding and accomplished women leaders,"
Iyengar said. "I want to thank my family and friends for their love and support, and those who have mentored me throughout my career, for their wisdom and guidance. I learn from the talented engineers around me and Chrysler Group's leadership has provided a very supportive environment for professional growth."

Iyengar is in charge with creating several of the key components which would go into the Chrysler vehicles of the future: controls, calibration, electrical system architecture, diagnostics, power electronics, high voltage batteries and battery management systems, e-motors and motor controls.

The department Iyengar currently leads will soon be responsible for the launch of the car maker's next (and first) generation plug-in systems and vehicles. The date when these new vehicles will come to be is still undecided.

"The Women of Color award clearly identifies some of the most influential business and community leaders in the U.S.," said Paolo Ferrero, senior vice president of Powertrain at Chrysler.

"Chrysler Group is proud that Women of Color magazine and Career Communications Group recognize Jay's extraordinary accomplishments as an engineer and a corporate leader."
