Chrysler Appoints Joseph Trapasso VP External Affairs

American manufacturer Chrysler announced today the appointment of Joseph "Jody" Trapasso to the role of vice president in charge with External Affairs activities. Simply put, he will be the man in charge with providing strategic direction on Chrysler Group’s international, federal and state government relations as well as coordinating the activities of the Corporate Representative in Latin America.

“Jody is a strong addition to the leadership team at Chrysler,” Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler CEO said in a statement. “He brings significant experience from both the public and private sector to today’s dynamic and intense regulatory and public policy environment.”

Trapasso worked until now as senior Ccunsel from law firm of Crowell & Moring. He also held variuos positions with the Democratic National Committee and the Office of Presidential Personnel at the White House during the Clinton Administration. Trapasso will also take over some of the responsibilities of Rob Liberatore, a former consultant for Sergio Marchionne.

“With today’s announcement, I want to thank Rob Liberatore, who has served as an advisor to me, for his commitment and contribution to our Company during this search process,” Marchionne added.

Separately, Sergio Marchionne announced this week Chrysler may go public in the near future.

"This is an issue the board will look at very closely for the remainder of 2010," Marchionne was quoted as saying by Autonews. “The fact we've gotten this far would suggest there's a strengthening base for looking at an IPO in a much shorter time frame than most people would expect."
