The Fiat-Chrysler group can`t just sit around and do nothing with the excellent platform which underpins the Dodge Dart and Fiat Viaggio, so they will be using it to underpin the smallest model in the Chrysler range - the 100, which will be a Focus-sized offering from the American manufacturer.
Now, it is close to being approved, and ‘pretty well done’, according to Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the group. He stated that: “I think we’re debunking a lot of the myth about hatchbacks not being sellable in the U.S. [. . .] And the great thing about hatches is that they have applications outside the U.S.” So the Chrysler 100 may very well be a hatchback, which they also plan to sell outside the US - probably in Europe.

Also, it may very well be a good model for them to enter the Japanese market with, as it has been speculated that they will be doing so in the coming years. With its advanced 1.4-liter turbocharged, engine the 100 could easily comply with any emissions regulations, so it is sellable in a diverse array of markets.
