Famous actor and comedian Chris Rock was the host of Sunday’s annual BET Awards. As part of the show, viewers got the chance to watch a two-minute clip having Chris asking folks, who were attending a monster truck rally about BET Awards. It turned out monster truck fans don’t really know a lot about the black culture. The video is hilarious.
Well, we all know about monster trucks and how they usually are crushing smaller vehicles beneath their huge tires. These trucks can run up and over most man-made barriers, so they are equipped with remote shut-off switches, called the Remote Ignition Interruptor, to help prevent an accident if the driver loses control at any time. At some events, only one truck is on the course at a time, while most feature two drivers racing each other on symmetrical tracks, with the losing driver eliminated in single-elimination tournament fashion.

However, in recent years, many monster truck competitions have ended with a “freestyle” event, which makes drivers build up a lot in the stunts they are performing. They are free to select their own course around the track and its obstacles. But whatever their style is, in most of the cases all sorts of items are being crushed, including a motor home, school buses and small airplanes.

Compared with the original modified pickup trucks like Bob Chandler’s Bigfoot, Everett Jasmer’s USA-1 or Jack Willman Sr.’s Bear Foot, a modern monster truck is more of a scaled up, four wheel drive dune buggy. As such, they generally aren’t actual “trucks” and only maintain their name due to the common style of fiberglass bodies used on the vehicles. Trucks now have custom built tubular chassis, with four-link suspensions to provide up to 4-feet of clearance.

As to the competitions held on US soil, Monster Jam is currently the largest and premier monster truck event, touring through the United States, Canada and select regions of Europe. In the clip below, Chris Rock asks people attending the monster truck competition about a cut-out of rapper Rick Ross, about the BET Awards and other similar question. Most of the answers are hilariously wrong, but things get really interesting when one of the respondents was asked if he ever dated a black woman.
