The fact is that Chevy’s Volt gets a lot of bad press, and some of it undeserved. Some might call it a gimmick that doesn’t do all that much in the economy battles, but it’s still a leap - a leap of faith for GM, who invested a lot of money into it, and a leap in terms of technology.
So to set the record straight and brush the dirt off, the Volt has gotten a new 30-second ad, meant to highlight that it’s still economical, safe and well built.
GM hopes that 2012 will be the year of the Volt, as GM CEO Dan Akerson has recently stated they will be making 60,000 units next year: “We want to ramp Volt production to roughly 60,000 in 2012. I think Prius in its second year did a lot less than that, half. By this summer we will (be in) what I call the second generation, where we will achieve certain scale, and we should see an appreciable drop in the cost of the production of the Volt.”
