The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupe is seen by many as the original supercar, since immediately after it was launched at the 1954 New York Auto Show it pretty much became the four-wheeled weapon of choice for Hollywood movie stars from the period.
It was the first car to ever sport a direct injected engine and at its launch it was also the fastest production car in the world.
Its distinctive gullwing doors and long hood were its most heart-breaking features for “common folks”, as many of its fans only got to own in 2D, on a sheet of paper.
The following eGarage short film depicts a man and his 300 SL Coupe, a cars which he fell in love when he was just ten years old and was playing with a toy scale model of it.
The cinematography is pretty much on the awesome side, but the story is so inspirational that you might as well start saving up for your favorite car immediately after watching it.
Personally, we got goosebumps when we learned that the man is also driving the heck out of his Gullwing and doesn't let it sit like a Ming vase inside an air-conditioned garage. The raw sound of that straight six is worth it alone. Enjoy!
