There isn't a week that goes by and we don't think with sadness filling our mind about the soon to be demised M156 engine from AMG.
As most of you know, the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 will be replaced later this year with a twin-turbocharged four-liter V8 that, despite the fact that it will be another monster of an engine, it has “efficiency” and “sustainability” written all over its curriculum vitae.
The thing that we will miss the most about the M156/M159 family of engines is closely related with the eargasmic exhaust sounds that these old-school powerplants can produce, but that is far from being the only reason.
The Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG is probably the car in which the M156 shined the most, as while its M159 brother made a legend out of the SLS AMG and all its variants.
The following video depicts a compilation of hair-raising exhaust sounds and burnouts, all done by YouTube user BerlinTomek with a stock C 63 AMG somewhere in Germany. Need more reasons to click "play"?
