Casey Stoner may face some unexpected risks if he really wants to have the wrist operation scheduled for the end of the season, according to the well-known MotoGP doctor, Claudio Costa.
For those of you who don't know, the MotoGP rider is going to have a wrist surgery following an older injury although he felt no pain over the last weeks and he even managed to win the last Grand Prix held in his natal country, Australia. However, according to autosport.com, Casey Stoner talked to no less than three doctors, all of them advising him to have the surgery.
"We have to have an operation, if we don't then it could be our career over so it's disappointing that five years after getting an operation, that it starts to flair up now," he told the same source mentioned above.
However, the surgery may be a bit risky, according to Claudio Costa. If something goes wrong in the convalescence period, Casey Stoner's career may be over, the doctor said.
"If Stoner manages to ride the way he did on Sunday, then getting surgery could be risky. That's because it's an area where blood supply is scarce, and there is the possibility that the bone doesn't rebuild itself,” Claudio Costa told the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
Casey Stoner took part in no less than 16 MotoGP races this season with 5 victories and 8 pole-positions. Member of the Ducati Marlboro Team, Stoner managed to gain 245 points until now, being currently the second after the already 2008 champion Valentino Rossi.
However, Stoner won the last season with no less than 10 Grand Prix victories and with a total number of points of 367.
