The car sharing experiment now being conducted by German carmaker Daimler in Austin, Texas, entered a new phase today, as it announced the selection of LiveStrong, Lance Armstrong's cancer fighting foundation, as a beta partner. Under the agreement between the two sides, LiveStrong employees will be able to register and get access to any of car2go's 200 smart fortwos.
“LiveStrong employees are excited to be part of car2go’s efforts to drastically change transportation in Austin,” Mona Patel, LiveStrong Executive Vice President said in a release.
“LiveStrong is committed to bettering our community and we hope our participation will encourage others to embrace car2go.”
LiveStrong, founded by Lance Armstrong in 1997, fights for 28 million people around the world living with cancer. the foundation is best known to the world for the yellow wristband worn by its members.

The foundation is car2go's second test group, with the City of Austin being the first, aver since the program was launched in November last year. According to Daimler's data, the partnership allows more than 13,000 city employees access to 200 car2go vehicles not only for business but also for personal use.
