Car thieves tried to steal a Chevrolet Corvette from a dealership in Lancaster County. However, the car put on quite a brave resistance, so the perpetrators had to settle for the next best thing. He drove away in a Chevy Camaro instead.
A surveillance camera captured the moments a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt broke the passenger side window of a C7 Corvette and slid inside, setting the alarm of the car in the process. The headlights and taillights blinking and the horn honking didn't seem to bother him much as he was very determined to drive away with the 'Vette.

It happened at the Manheim Auto Auction in Lancaster Road in Pennsylvania one hour after midnight. The man apparently hoped to reverse through the white fence at the back of the car, just like the Chevrolet Camaro did, driven by another man, but he was unable to do it. The sports car got stuck and remained put.

Another person, who had taken the Chevrolet Camaro parked right next to the Corvette, was waiting for him in the first lane. The thieves chose this route because a pickup truck was parked in the driveway and was blocking the way out.

Toward the end of the 15-second video, a police car shows up. The man wearing the hooded sweatshirt jumps in the Camaro, and the muscle car drives off. The video stops as the police car seems to be trying to go around the stolen Camaro to block its way.

The police reportedly stopped chasing the Camaro to avoid endangering other traffic participants. Local authorities are still searching for the suspects, who have supposedly tried to apply a similar procedure at other dealerships in the area.

It seems that thieves aren't exactly good at driving Corvettes

It seems that Chevrolet Corvettes are not exactly the kind of cars that are easy to steal and drive off with. Back in March, we reported about two perpetrators breaking into a dealership in Birmingham, Alabama, and speeding off with a Yukon and a Corvette Z06 Convertible.

But the convertible gave them quite a headache. Probably, literally, too. The one driving it had no idea how to put the top up. So, he kept driving with the top down despite the freezing temperatures on the night of the theft. There were only 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-2 degrees Celsius). If driving a convertible in the open air in freezing temperatures doesn't get attention, then we don't know what does.

This year, dealerships across the US have been plagued by thefts. In mid-April, thieves managed to flee with eight cars that were parked in the yard of the North County Ford dealership in Arab, Alabama. They also broke into the key safe and stole 300 car keys that were stored inside.
