No wonder China wants autonomous transportation! Its highway network seems to be packed with people who can't drive, and that applies to the truck drivers, not just regular motorists.
These four amazing photos show the aftermath of an incredibly crash that happened the other day. A car carrier full of little SUVs almost fell over the edge of a tall bridge.

Luckily, only the cab part of the truck went over, so the weight of the trailer and its cargo stopped the vehicle from falling. From the look of it, things could not have been any closer.

It's like in that crappy Schwarzenegger movie, where the terrorists are laughing because the truck stabilized. However, just at the last moment, a pelican lands on the hood and seals their fate.

Thankfully, there weren't any pelicans around Qingyuan City, in South China’s Guangdong Province, where this crash happened. That's because the 150-meter drop to the right of the bridge would have meant certain death for the truck driver and the destruction of all those SUVs. We counted 21 of them, but there could be more.

According to Chinese media reports, nobody was even injured in this incident. That seems surprising when you consider the extent of the damage. Two of the truck's axles have been torn off, and there's some damage to the front of the cab as well. You can't see it in all the photos, but about a quarter of the trailer has also gone over the barrier. In the background of the image, you might also make out a regular car that's taken serious damage in the background.

To "rescue" the stranded car carrier, Chinese police had to divert traffic on two adjacent lanes and call in a heavy-duty mobile crane. Boy, we wouldn't want to be the truck driver who has to explain this to his boss.
