Both the Corvette and Camaro stories began back when the world was black and white, and they continue to this day with the latest iterations.
The ‘Vette has evolved into a mid-engine sports car for the masses, being capable of giving full-blown supercars a very decent run for their money, and the Camaro is still a proper Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger rival, especially in the top-spec, known as the ZL1.
It was exactly the ZL1 variant of the Chevy Camaro that was filmed in action while drag racing the previous-generation Corvette. The muscle car uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque bouncing off the walls. It brags about being able to sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in less than 4 seconds. Down the quarter-mile, it’s a 10-second car, on the condition that it has someone skilled holding the wheel.
A 6.2-liter V8 engine is also found under the long hood of the Chevrolet Corvette C7, in the Z06 configuration. It kicks out an identical 650 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) and is about as fast as its muscle car sibling to 62 mph (100 kph). Keep the right pedal pinned to the floor, and it will eventually max out at 196 mph (315 kph). Moreover, on a good day, in perfect weather conditions, and with sticky tires on its feet, not to mention a skilled driver, the Z06 can also complete the quarter-mile in roughly 10 seconds.
Now, neither of the two ran the ¼-mile in 10 seconds on that day, but in a little over 11, with one of them being clocked at 11.20 seconds, and the other one at 11.45. To find out which one was quicker, you’ll have to watch the following video, which is only 24 seconds long.
