Its first fully-electric crossover, the Lyriq is a big milestone for Cadillac, bringing a brand-new design identity for the iconic marque, 300+ miles (more than 483 km) of range, as well as a high-tech interior that follows the trendy style of the Escalade.
Because it is such an important moment in the company’s history, with the Lyriq heralding the new era of sustainable mobility, everything has to be perfect. And to make sure that happens, Cadillac decided to work outside the box and bring fresh ideas from entities that don’t usually get involved in the automotive industry.
For example, we recently found out the Lyriq’s next-generation user experience was created with help from companies such as Rightpoint and Territory Studio, which collaborated with Cadillac on the all-important task of designing “all-new in-vehicle displays.”
“In designing the user interface for Cadillac, we started with a vision but recognized that we were going to need a fresh perspective and new ways of thinking to turn it into a reality,” said Bill Thompson, GM senior manager, User Interface Design. “That’s where Rightpoint and Territory Studio came into the picture.”
The companies each worked from their own point of view. For example, Rightpoint is said to have roots in strategy, design and technology, while Territory Studios – better known for user interface design seen in blockbusters such as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Martian – shared its “deep understanding of narrative design for film, games and brands.”
There’s a reason why Cadillac decided to disclose these details right now, as the company prepares to present its new in-vehicle user experience at the first-ever online 2021 CES (Consumer Electronics Show).
Everything will revolve around the Lyriq, which features an advanced UX with a LED display spread on a diagonal of 33 inches, as well as an easy to personalize user interface focused on delivering a customizable, high-end experience.
