Cadillac began shipping 2014 ELR to nationwide dealerships today, as the first batch of luxury electric vehicles left GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant.
The manufacturer didn’t say how many ELRs were loaded and sent to US showrooms, but it looks like Cadillac got a helping hand from Santa Claus himself, who drove his 8 RP (as in reindeer power) sleigh to Detroit to assist the entire process.
As a reminder, the 2014 Cadillac ELR is powered by an electric motor that delivers 207 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque, while a 1.4-liter petrol engine was fitted for recharging purposes. The coupe can travel 345 miles with the range-extender activated and and 37 miles on electricity alone.
The 0 to 60 mph sprint is completed in 8.8 seconds in EV mode and 7.8 seconds with the range-extending gasoline engine, while top speed is set at 106 miles per hour. Starting price for the 2014 ELR is set at $75,000.
