Those who still believed the race-spec version of the Cadillac CTS-V presented by GM in January at the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) was the result of a bunch of engineers playing around were proved wrong today by the announcement made by the American auto maker.
Already confirmed as an entry in the 2011 Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT season, the CTS-V racer will be taking on the Sebring International Raceway this Tuesday, as part of the second round of testing before the start of the racing season.
The Sebring outing will be the first in which the model will be wearing a complete racing makeover, with full exterior colors, decals and numbers. Two of them will be driven around the track by Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell.
“We’re here fine-tuning the cars, validating components and vehicle dynamics,” said Jim Vurpillat, Cadillac global marketing director. “It’s our first opportunity to get both cars on the track at the same time, in full race trim. Besides looking incredible on the track, the cars are performing at an exceptional level.”
The Cadillac team will be putting all the work that has gone into the model through its paces this week. The 6.2l V8 engine fitted under the hood and its 556 horsepower will be tested, as will the Magnetic Ride Control suspension, Brembo brakes and other components.
“We’re getting in a lot of laps, and that’s what we need to do to get ready for the 2011 season,” driver Andy Pilgrim added.
