Built between 2005 and 2009 in Sweden, the Cadillac BLS was nothing more than just a restyled Saab 9-3. A compact sedan (later a station wagon too) designed for the European market that wasn’t successful at all, with little more than 6,000 units sold through 2007.
Based on GM’s Epsilon architecture, which was also shared by the Chevrolet Malibu and the Opel Vectra (or the Saturn Aura if it makes any difference), the BLS was offered with three different engines, one of which was a Fiat-sourced 1.9-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel.
The vehicle failed in Europe for a number of reason, but we’re not here to discuss that. We revisited the BLS only to show you how it would have looked if GM decided to build it with a hatchback body. Judging by Theophilus Chin’s rendering, a BLS hatch would have looks pretty weird and we bet it wouldn’t have saved the nameplate from its unfortunate fate. What do you think?
